Opening Dash Boutique

Kim Kardashian received a car for her 16th birthday, but at the age of 18, her parents cut her off from the family fortune, hoping to encourage a sense of financial independence and responsibility in the young lass. It is here that Kim's entrepreneurial spirit was born; within a few years, Kim had become a fashion designer, selling her wares on eBay and boasting a client list that included Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and other socialites with money to burn.

Kim Kardashian took her new-found passion a step further when she recruited her two sisters, Kourtney and Khloe, and the trio opened DASH, a clothing boutique in Calbasas, California. Who needs mom and dad's money, anyway?

Being Born with a Silver Spoon

We may be embracing some sort of bizarre (and probably flawed) logic here, but we figure one of the greatest moments of Kim Kardashian's life was being born into the Kardashian family.

Try to follow our train of thought here: she wouldn't have been the Kim Kardashian we know and love if she hadn't been a Kardashian, right? Without being born into a wealthy, already semi-famous California socialite family, she would be just another pretty girl running around the wasteland of Los Angeles. She wouldn't have her own boutique or her own reality TV series or have Paris Hilton as her on-again, off-again BFF or have made a sex tape with a rap star. She wouldn't have any of that!

So thanks to her parents, Robert and Kris, for not only taking care of Kim's physical creation but also laying down the groundwork of what it means to be a Kardashian.

Ajay Devgn, who was shooting in Hyderabad for Golmaal 3 on Father's Day, got a surprise when his daughter Nysa paid him a visit. The actor had no idea that Nysa was flying in from Mumbai to be with him on Father's Day.

Needless to say he was touched by this gesture that Nysa and Kajol had planned together. Kajol was coming to Hyderabad that day to meet a friend and the two decided it would be great if Nysa could meet her dad too.

Since it was a weekend, Nysa was able to spend some quality time with her dad without missing school. The Devgns are expecting their second child in a couple of months.

Karan Johar has finally found a title for his Stepmom remake production starring Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal.

It is called We Are Family. Looks like all of Dharma Productions titles are going angrezi. Cases in point: Wake Up Sid and I Hate Luv Storys.

Abbas Tyrewala's 1-800-Love has been rechristened Call Me Dil. Apparently, the producers of the John Abraham starrer wanted a change in name.

Golmaal cast is bringing the floor down

Ajay Devgn and the Golmaal 3 cast are the only residents in the fourth floor of a hotel where they revil almost every night

Ajay Devgn has become quite the party animal. After booking the entire fourth floor of the Sitara Hotel in Ramoji Rao Studio in Hyderabad, Devgn, Rohit Shetty and the rest of the Golmaal 3 cast, revels almost every night.

Says a source close to the actor, "Ajay has shot at Ramoji Studios many times before. Each time, he stays at the Enter The Dragon suite at the fourth floor of the Sitara Hotel. This time, he told Ashtavinayak, the producers of Golmaal 3, that he wanted the entire fourth floor of the Sitara Hotel booked for the actors, director Rohit Shetty and producer Dhaval (from Ashtavinayak).

So all the rooms on the floor (401-426) have been booked for 21 actors. Ajay wanted them to party together at the same place after pack-up."

That's not all. Adds the source, "All the rooms share a common corridor, where the stars meet every evening after pack-up every night. Chairs and tables are set up there. The actors go to the gym, freshen up and enjoy a few drinks in the corridor to unwind.

Most nights, it's Ajay, Rohit, Tusshar Kapoor, Mithun and Kareena who sit down over dinner. Sometimes they are joined by Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Khemu. Mithun has been cooking healthy food for all of them at the hotel kitchen. On Saturday night, he cooked mutton for them."

Earlier, the actors would order individual dinners in their rooms. Now, with them partying together, they've grown closer. "Sometimes they are joined by Johny Lever who entertains them with his funny jokes and mimicry acts. It's like there's one big party on the fourth floor of Sitara every night.

But now that Kajol and Nysa have come down to spend a few days with Ajay, party activities have been curbed a bit because when his family is there, he has no time for anyone else."

Katrina won't be at Raajneeti success bash

The actress will send a video message from Spain, instead

The Raajneeti team will celebrate the film's success at a party tomorrow, minus Katrina Kaif. The actress is in Spain shooting for Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara with Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol.

Sources reveal that since Kat won't be in town, she's sending a video message to the rest of the cast, which will be played at the party. A source close to the actress says, "Kat is sulking that she won't be able to celebrate the film's success with the rest of the cast.

Raajneeti was an important film for her and she went all out to promote it. She wasn't even in town when the film was declared a huge hit as she had to leave for Spain a day after the film's release."

And though Farhan and Zoya suggested she could take a day off, Kat decided to continue shooting and not delay the schedule even by a day. "She could have flown down for a day, but it would wreck the shoot schedule. So she came up with the idea of sending across a video message to the rest of her cast."

Katrina confirms, "I won't be able to attend the party as am shooting in Spain."

Is Abhishek jealous of Ranbir Kapoor?

What does Abishek Bachchan have that the senior Bachchan doesn't? Three films with the movie making maverick, Mani Ratnam, that's what! And it has begun to rankle the Big B.

He has been urging Mani to fill that valuable lacuna in his repertoire.

Laughs Abhishek, “Pa keeps pulling my leg and Mani's about it. He keeps telling me, “You've done three films with Mani whereas I haven't even done one.” I keep retorting. “But you've worked with my all-time favourite director Manmohan Desai.”

Shooting in the sinister jungles for Mani Ratnam's Raavan, Abhishek was more concerned for the wellbeing of his wife Aishwarya who had to perform some of the most dangerous stunts ever done by a female actor.

“I am a normal man and a normal husband. I was definitely concerned for my wife's wellbeing. And she was equally concerned about me, ” says Abhishek.

Ironically the dainty-looking beauty was more than equal to the gruelling stunts in the jungle.

Says the proud husband, “Oh she's very very strong. But Mani wouldn't allow her to do anything that was unsafe. Speaking for me it was great fun.

Ask any of Mani's actors. They'll tell you they're willing to do anything that he asks them to. Raavan is the most difficult film I've ever done. It offered me my most challenging role to date. It was deeply challenging film for me and Aishwarya because we shot in the jungles under the severest of conditions. But finally it was worth it.”

How does he rate his performance? Abhishek says, “I can't say I'm satisfied, though. When I saw the film recently I realized there is so much more that I could have done with my role. Given the opportunity I'd do Raavan all over again, and a lot more.”

Raavan is Abhishek's third and by far the toughest film by the magical Mani Ratnam.

Says Abhishek, “I believe Raavan is even more magical than Yuva and Guru. It's a territory that neither of us have ever visited. I believe it's Mani's most massy film till date.

You know it's funny, but because Mani has a fantastic aesthetic sense and he's constantly raising the bar with every film of his it is believed that his films are high art meant for a select audience. Not true! Mani is for the masses.”

The three-film rapport with Mani is the envy of the entertainment industry. Abhishek says he never questions Mani's judgement. “I completely go by his judgement and believe he knows the best.”

Mani is all set to work with Ranbir Kapoor in his next. Does that make Abhishek jealous? “I would't be jealous if he works with another actor. My love and respect for Mani isn't restricted to a role. Our relationship goes beyond films. Having said that, I would of course want to work with him a fourth time. The entire industry wants to work with him. Why wouldn't I?”

Raavan wrenched Abhishek away from his comfort zone. “To shoot in the jungles wasn't easy. But why do a film unless it challenges you to go beyond your comfort zone? I've always done films that remove me from the comfort zone and put me in a place I've never been. That's one of the main criteria for choosing a role.”

Focussing on the emotions while doing those heart-in-the-mouth stunts wasn't easy.

Says the evolving actor, “That was double challenge. First I was doing a role that required me to perform the most challenging physical activities. Then I also had to emote in ways that I had never done. And the one couldn't be compromised for the other. It was very difficult. But now I realize the pain was worth it.”

Abhishek says Mani Ratnam showed him the film as it was being made. “So I was aware of what we were shooting together. I knew it was something very very special.” Raavan and the shooting in the jungles brought Abhishek closer to nature. “It couldn't get any more natural…we were in the jungles with the animals, insects, waterfalls, rain and Nature for months. It was Mother Nature in all her glory. I've always been very ecologically savvy. But this experience just changed my life.”

Abhishek has seen both the Tamil and the Hindi version of Raavan and he's amazed by how different Aishwarya's performance is in both. Abhishek also struck a chord with Vikram who plays the protagonist.

“I've known Vikram for a very long time. He's a very sweet chap. I take it as a compliment when co-stars enjoy working with me say they enjoyed the experience. Making a film should be as much fun as watching it.”

A raunchy song giving Emraan Hashmi sleepless nights

Hashmi pondered over shooting for raunchy track with suggestive lyrics

A raunchy song giving Emraan Hashmi sleepless nights? Now that's not something you hear everyday! The otherwise care-a-damn actor had his reservations but was eventually convinced to shoot for 'Baburao Mast Hai'.

The raunchy track sung by Mika features in Ekta Kapoor's Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. The song has already been tagged as 'controversial' because of its explicit lyrics.

At loggerheads
Says a source, "Several discussions were held before the song was actually shot. In fact, some lines were so vulgar that producer Ekta Kapoor had to put her foot down and have them deleted. While director Milan Luthria was fine with it, Emraan had his doubts. The lyrics have been credited to Amitabh Bhattacharya (Emosanal Atyachar, Dev D)."

Ekta explains, "It's about the absolute debauchery that Shoaib (Emraan) and his group of friends resort to, in a fit of drunken power. In those days, there were fewer nightclubs and the economic divide far more pronounced.

During the song, elements from the underworld actually enter a club and nobody can stop them. We discussed the lyrics -- how far we could go and how much we could control. I removed a very vulgar line and re-recorded the track."

Milan says, " 'Baburao Mast Hai' is about Shoaib, who wants to woo Mumbai with his friends. He has bought his first fancy car and it's his first visit to a posh nightclub.

We wanted to leave no stone unturned to create a bigger buzz than what has been already achieved with 'Pi Le'. Several sleepless nights and many versions later, we finally cracked the track."

The actor says, "I hope people don't get offended by the lyrics. But if they do, I will tell them that they need to lighten up! The lyrics have been tweaked to sound raunchy.

I was being cautious as I felt it could offend people's sensibilities but it's cool now. People should just lighten up and enjoy the track. It's for frontbenchers and single-screen audiences. I loved my unique shiny gold diamond-studded watch and gold chains that form part of my look."

Brazil beat Ivory Coast 3-1, reach last 16

JOHANNESBURG: Brazil qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup with a 3-1 win against Ivory Coast in their World Cup Group G clash at Soccer City on Sunday, but had star midfielder Kaka controversially sent off.

Kaka was dismissed for a second yellow card in the final minutes for pushing Abdelkader Keita, but it appeared the Ivorian had wildly exaggerated the impact of the shove by falling to the ground clutching his head.

The Brazilians opened the scoring with typical flair when Kaka slotted a pass between two Ivory Coast defenders for Luis Fabiano who blasted his shot high into the net past the Elephants' goalkeeper Boubacar Barry on 25 minutes.

Luis Fabiano got his second goal when he battled through the Ivorian defence, chipped the ball over two defenders, and finished with a low left-foot shot, although there was a suspicion he brought the ball down with his arm.

Kaka was also the provider for the third goal when his low cross was neatly finished off by Elano after the hour-mark.

But minutes later Elano had to be stretchered off the pitch after what appeared to be a nasty shin injury.

Ivory Coast pulled a goal back through Chelsea star Didier Drogba - who started the game despite the broken right arm he suffered in a pre-World Cup friendly - who directed a header past Brazil 'keeper Julio Cesar with 79 minutes gone.

English Muffin-maker guards `nooks and crannies'

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Chris Botticella knows the secret to those "nooks and crannies" in Thomas' English Muffins -- the way they cradle butter and jam, and after a good toasting, produce just the right crunch.

It's a secret that the muffins' makers have gone to great lengths to protect over 75 years, allowing it to rack up $500 million in sales annually of the toaster treats.

This Friday, June 4, 2010 photo shows a Thomas'

English Muffin in Philadelphia. A baking company

executive said to be among a handful of people

who knows the secrets behind the "nooks and

crannies" of Thomas' English Muffins appeals

a court order blocking him from taking a job with

rival Hostess. (AP Photo/Matt Rourke)

The company says only seven executives know all three parts of its winning formula for making the muffins -- including how much dough to use, the right amount of moisture and the proper way to bake them.

So it became alarmed and sued in January when Botticella, one of the trusted seven, decided to bolt and join rival Hostess, maker of Wonder Bread and Twinkies.

Hostess Brands Inc. doesn't make English muffins. But that doesn't matter to the lawyers seeking to protect the trademarked "nooks and crannies" in a U.S. baking industry where four major players duke it out on supermarket shelves.

"Botticella could produce an English muffin that might look a bit different, but that would nevertheless possess the distinctive taste, texture and flavor character that distinguish the Thomas' English Muffin and that have been the foundation of the product's success," they argued in a brief submitted to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Thomas' brand is owned by Mexican food conglomerate Grupo Bimbo SAB. Bimbo Bakeries USA, its Horsham, Pa.-based U.S. unit, says it has good reason to believe Botticella may expose the secret to how its muffins toast up crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Bimbo's lawyers say Botticella hid his new employment deal for months while attending high-level Bimbo meetings and debating strategies for competing with Hostess. They also accuse him of copying a dozen files onto a USB thumb drive in his final days, a charge he denies.

U.S. District Judge R. Barclay Surrick issued an injunction in February barring Botticella, of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., from taking the job at Hostess until the court fight is settled, after finding his account of his actions dubious. Botticella appealed to the 3rd Circuit because he said he is unsure how long Hostess will hold the job open for him.

In depositions, the industry veteran has said he accepted the Hostess offer last fall but stayed at Bimbo through January so he could get his 2009 bonus. He said he'd grown frustrated in the $250,000-a-year job as Bimbo's vice president for operations for the western region so agreed to a $200,000 Hostess offer in Houston.

He argued the confidentiality agreement he signed was valid "only during his employment" and does not bar him from working for Irving, Texas-based Hostess, a privately held company.

Bimbo has other reasons to worry about his jump to Hostess. Botticella knows other secrets, as well; he had access to "code books" that spell out production formulas for other Bimbo products, such as its new line of Sandwich Thins.

The bread at stake is considerable.

Bimbo's parent had nearly $900 million in sales in the U.S. in the first quarter and its English Muffins are a big part of that, along with its tortillas, snacks and cookies. (Bimbo is a short version of the Spanish word bambino, or small child.)

Thomas' fans understand why the company is so protective of its "nooks and crannies."

"The butter melts and those craters catch the butter, or anything else, whether it's jam or honey," said Elise Bauer, who operates simplyrecipe.com and has been eating the muffins since she was a child. "The honey can swim in the butter. It doesn't drip through."

"You toast them and the tips of the craters get all toasty and brown," she said.

Robert McCarroll, who runs The Good Steer, a family restaurant on New York's Long Island, said that Thomas' English Muffins have been used to bookend its hamburgers since the eatery opened 53 years ago.

"We've been doing pretty much the same thing since 1957," he told The Associated Press.

"They add a nice consistency," he said. "The way they toast because of those nooks and crannies, it's an English Muffin and not just a round piece of bread."

In the Pennsylvania court case, the issue on the table is whether a leak must be inevitable or merely probable before the judges can stop Botticella from taking his a new job.

"It's a horrible situation he finds himself in," said one of his attorneys, Elizabeth K. Ainslie. "If the assistant coach of the Philadelphia Eagles moves to the Dallas Cowboys, is he supposed to forget all of the plays that he learned while at the Eagles?"

Kareena has come to destroy Saif Ali Khan and go away: M F Husain

From his Doha abode, 94-year-old maestro takes shots at Bollywood's biggest stars

Kyani's khaari biscuits, the daily Bombay newspapers, half a pyaali of chai, are habits that still connect him to his home city. As addictively, he must get his weekly fix of Bollywood movies.

Whether the 94-year-old Maqbool Fida Husain is in Dubai, London or Doha, he must catch a film, hot-from-the-Mumbai-studio-oven, first-day-first-show. Not that he sits through 99 per cent of them, skedaddling from the cinemaplex as soon as the intermission card flashes on the screen.

"Still there is a strange attraction, aadat se majboor maybe, " he laughs, wanting to know rightaway how the movies have been performing at the cash counters.

Bollywood is not on my interview-agenda. There are weightier issues to discuss: the near five-year exile from India where he can't return because of an inestimable number of cases registered against him for alleged obscenity in a clutch of his paintings.

Left with no option, he has accepted Qatar citizenship. He paints prolifically, walks ramrod straight, and flashes sparkful eyes. The only difference is that he has become leaner, far more que sera sera. I meet him in a roomy villa in Doha's prime Lagoon neighbourhood. Willy-nilly, Bollywood springs up in mid-conversation. Excerpts.

You were in constant touch with film personalities in Mumbai. Has any one of them maintained contact?
Only Madhuri Dixit. I speak to her on the phone. But see, she wasn't a typical Bollywood girl even at the height of her popularity. Often, I remember a small scene from Hum Aapke Hain Koun... it is shot by moonlight created in a studio. The way she performs, her total surrender to the camera is what beautiful heroines are about.

(Pause) A few days ago, I saw someone called Barbara Mori from Brazil or Mexico. I was horrified! Why cast her when so many of our girls are far more beautiful and talented? There was another girl in that movie... Kites... she looked ghostly. Who was she?

Kangna Ranaut?

Hanh, Kangna had so much white make-up, she looked as if she had applied chalk all over her face. Kites ke baare mein yahan bhi bahut charcha tha. But the next day, it nose-dived. It's a third-rate movie. It should be banned. Kuch tuk hi nahin tha.

What was your friend Hrithik Roshan doing?
He's not my friend, saab. No one is anyone's friend in show business. Phir bhi. But after seeing Kites, I thought I must start my third film soon.

Why am I just painting when I could do so much with the medium? According to my terms and my vision. I'll revive my project -- a comedy -- in July next year.

I've had the title registered -- Comedy.com. I wanted to cast Urmila Matondkar, but where is she? She seems to have vanished into thin air. What happened? Is she out of the scene?

For a while, you were quite gung-ho about Amrita Rao.
Sorry, not anymore. I liked her very much in Vivaah. Just one more movie... phir woh bhi khatam ho gayee kya? Maybe she just didn't find a manager who could guide her career properly. Actually, the heroes are performing better than the girls nowadays.

Like Ranbir Kapoor... he's so natural. I would say that he's the first real actor in the Kapoor khandaan. Raj, Shammi, Shashi had tremendous screen presence and charm... but Rishi Kapoor's boy acts... really acts. He doesn't make funny faces like the other young actors.

Of the girls, I'm absolutely bowled over by Vidya Balan. She conveys pure Indianness, feminine, sensual, without making an effort. I was captivated by her in Ishqiya which I saw a dozen times just for her.

The film was okay, it had a silly, meaningless title. In Paa, also she was wonderful but I didn't care for the film much. Amitabh Bachchan behaving like a schoolboy was supposed to be sweet but I couldn't take it.

(Chuckles) I was concentrating on Vidya anyway. She seems to be intelligent enough not to get spoilt by all the acclaim she's getting. Praise is transitory. If she agrees, I would like to cast her in my film. I have spoken to her, I will tell her all about it when I meet her in Dubai or London, so let's see what happens.

You aren't impressed by the other heroines?
Like who?

Katrina Kaif...
She's zero in acting but she is beautiful, not bad. Phir woh hai... Priyanka Chopra. She's all about imaging. If she gets a good role, she's good. People liked her in Fashion and Kaminey but she's not my type of heroine. And I wonder why people like Kareena Kapoor. Bilkul matchstick hai. She has come to destroy
Saif Ali Khan and go away.

What would you say about Bollywood's increasing cultural impact?
Bollywood cinema has become empty of ideas and sincerity. 3 Idiots was not great but it was well made and touched on the issue of education. I admired Aamir Khan for Taare Zameen Par but wondered if it was a fluke when I saw Ghajini. Horrible! Aamir should have been pulled up for all the violence, the film should have been banned.

Are you surprised that no one from Bollywood has expressed concern about your situation?
But I never had genuine friends in Bollywood. So where's the question of any of them expressing concern for me? Not one. They have blanked me out.

Amitabh is from such a decent family but he is full of contradictions. Can he ever live down the fact that he did that vulgar number Tere angne mein?

...Yash Chopra, the less said about him the better. I was supposed to do a series of paintings on Indian cinema that would be put up in his studio. Then I realised it was no point. He didn't treat me like an artist who was doing something for him out of friendship, he treated me as if was one of his employees.

(Mellowing) Phir bhi, I'll always be grateful to Yash for making Gaja Gamini possible. Despite all sorts of problems created by Madhuri's secretary Rikoo, he ensured that she would do the film. It had become such a problem that at one point, Yash had said, "Forget about Madhuri, I'll get Kajol to do your film."

But you know me, it had to be Madhuri or no one else. (Laughs) I nearly died while making the film. There were so many pressures. So when I'm alone now, I count my blessings. I'm alive at least.

Australian study finds crocodiles surf the seas

CANBERRA, Australia – Crocodiles can surf ocean currents to take long leisurely journeys across open seas in the South Pacific, a researcher said on Wednesday.

The research by a group of Australian ecologists published this week in the British Ecological Society's "Journal of Animal Ecology" explains how the world's largest living reptile came to occupy so many South Pacific islands despite having little stamina for swimming.

Like a surfer catching a wave, estuarine crocodiles — which can grow up to 20 feet (6 meters) — can ride currents to cross hundreds of miles (kilometers) of open sea, study author Hamish Campbell said.

The research began in 2002 in the tropics of Australia's Queensland state and involved environmentalist and television personality Steve Irwin, the so-called Crocodile Hunter who was killed by a stingray barb off Queensland in 2006.

Campbell, a University of Queensland ecologist, teamed up with government rangers and the Irwin family's Australia Zoo to tag 27 adult crocodiles in the remote Kennedy River. They used sonar transmitters and underwater receivers to track their movements over 12 months.

Campbell said a 20-minute swim is hard work for a crocodile, so he was surprised that eight of the tagged crocodiles repeatedly took long journeys out to sea from their river home area that was more than 35 miles (60 kilometers) upstream.

"It did seem unlikely that they were swimming the entire way and when we looked at residual surface currents from satellite (images), you could see quite clearly that they were indeed following the current systems," Campbell told The Associated Press.

One 13-foot (3.8-meter) male swam 367 miles (590 kilometers) over 25 days to another river system where it stayed for seven months before returning.

"Why he went there, we have absolutely no idea, but it seems very deliberate, purposeful movements," Campbell said.

He said the research showed that currents could carry crocodiles — which can survive for months without food or fresh water — across vast tracks of ocean.

The research also explains why the same species of estuarine crocodile is found in various countries separated by seas.

Zoologist Grahame Webb, an Australian crocodile expert independent of the study, welcomed the research as the first demonstration of how crocodiles use currents.

"Long distances voyages at sea have always been a bit rare with crocs, and people have suspected that currents played a part," Webb said.

"The research shows they're much more mobile than people realize, and how they can be so energy efficient that a giant reptile weighing nearly a ton can survive on one or two chickens a week," Webb said.

Large crocodiles are powerful, but tire quickly. A 20-minute struggle in a trap can kill a crocodile, because exertion causes a rapid buildup of lactic acid in their blood, Webb said.

Estuarine crocodiles mainly live in rivers and mangroves in a range extending over more than 3,800 square miles (10,000 square kilometers)

of the Southeast Pacific from India to Fiji and from China to Australia

How’d you get this idea that video games are a guy thing? You think it’s only boys and man-children who feel compelled to demonstrate their hand-eye coordination by mass-murdering pixel-people? You think you can’t rock the double-X chromosomes and still have the right mixture of asocial tendencies and obsessive compulsions it takes to be a proficient joystick jockey?

Sorry dude, but it’s the digital age. That means girls and women can aspire to be basically anything boys and men can. And that includes being indoorsy, soft-bodied, socially stunted, vidiotic console-zombies.

If that’s what they want.

Wear this shirt: when you have all your friends over to watch Fred Savage in THE WIZARD.

Don’t wear this shirt: if you’re just watching Fred Savage in THE WIZARD by yourself, though. Why bother getting all dressed up if no one’s coming over? You’ll just get Dorito dust all over your clean laundry. Everyone knows the proper uniform for watching THE WIZARD alone is underwear you slept in and a filthy bathrobe.

This shirt tells the world: “Any boss you can beat I can beat faster. I can beat any boss faster than you.”

We call this color: Gee!! I Wish I Were a Man—I’d Join The Navy

The Limitless Power Of Steam

A man from a futuristic past. A man with a mission: to clean up this wretched world. A man known only as… Shark “Hard” Surface, Steam Cleaner.

From The Journal Of Palmotti Smythe

We had docked the airship in the port of New Siam for some rest and relaxation. I should have known better. For when has trouble never found our band of merry adventurers and carried us around like a puppy carries a bone?

Of course, it did not help that Shark “Hard” Surface Steam Cleaner had been given a secret mission to clean the scummy, hard to reach areas of the city, a mission which he chose to keep hidden from both myself and Lady Veronica Buxom-Jiggles. When our so-called comrade had suggested New Siam, we had assumed he merely wanted to take advantage of the tiger park, and perhaps the world’s largest steam-powered water slide. But, as we were to discover, Shark was preparing to use his concentrator nozzle to create a direct blast of the most deadly form of steam, to eliminate- NO, MOM, I’M NOT TALKING TO YOU. I’M NARRATING. INTO MY TAPE RECORDER. YES, I’M STILL WORKING ON THAT STUPID STORY. THANKS FOR SUPPORTING ME SO MUCH. God.

From The Journal Of Palmotti Smythe

It was sunset aboard the airship. The golden light was slowing vanishing behind the peaks of Lady Veronica. I tapped the Babbage receiver, delicately, but it seemed to be properly calibrated. There was no mistake. Shark “Hard” Surface Steam Cleaner had vanished.

Of course, this put me in a delicate position. For if I were to call the provincial governor and warn him that the filth and muck which covered his tiles and sink edges might now be in danger, how would he respond? Would he laugh and say “But, Vaughn Aztec-” for that was the name by which he knew me ”-such a thing would be glorious! Tell your friend he has my illicit and secret support!” After all, the politics of New Siam were complex, and far below them fell mankind’s morality. No, my only choice was to go forth myself and OHMYGOD MOM, STOP! STOP TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR! I WILL! I SAID I WILL! MOM, I’M GOING TO CLEAN THE WHOLE BATHROOM LIKE I SAID! WHY DO YOU THINK I BROUGHT THE SHARK HARD SURFACE STEAM CLEANER IN HERE WITH ME IN THE FIRST PLACE? NO, IT ONLY TAKES THIRTY SECONDS TO WARM UP AND THEN I CAN REACH ANYWHERE WITH THE TWELVE FOOT POWER CORD, MOM! NO, DON’T COME IN, I’M RECORDING! I SAID I’M RECORDING! BECAUSE I LIKE THE ECHO IN HERE, MOM, IT MAKES ME SOUND MORE LIKE I’M IN AN AIRSHIP. I
WILL, MOM! I SAID I WILL! NO, YOU SAID “BEFORE THE END OF THE DAYAND I STILL HAVE TIME! MOM, GO AWAY, I’M RECORDING!

From The Journal Of Palmotti Smythe

Shark grinned at me as I dangled from the silken cord and grappling hook of my own invention. “So, Smythe!” he began, the hiss of steam always present, “You’ve come to this hard-to-reach area at last! Perhaps to stop me from removing this mildew on society with my angled nozzle and small brush? Or perhaps, my friend, my comrade-in-arms, perhaps you have at last come to understand the glory of my mission, and are here to pick up the large brush and filing flask to fight beside me? Say it is the latter, Palmotti, and embrace me as a brother, that we might cleanse the face of New Siam… together!” I had no answer, merely pulling my long duster tight and lowering my treated goggles to prepare for combat. I could hear the rumble of the building steam, and as I pressed down on the button, I noted the horror in the face of the man who was once my dearest MOM I’M JUST ABOUT TO DO IT! I AM! MY FINGER IS LITERALLY ON THE BUTTON! DO YOU HEAR IT, MOM? DO YOU HEAR THE STEAM NOW? THAT’S BECAUSE I’M DOING IT, MOM, BECAUSE I’M USING THE SHARK HARD SURFACE STEAM CLEANER TO CLEAN THE BATHROOM LIKE YOU ASKED ME TO DO! MY WEEKLY STORY PODCAST IS GOING TO BE LATE BUT AUNT JANE IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO TAKE A SHOWER WHEN SHE COMES ON FRIDAY, SO HOORAY FOR THAT, RIGHT? I’LL RAISE MY VOICE IF I WANT TO RAISE MY VOICE! IT’S MY VOICE! WHAT? NO INTERNET FOR A WEEK? AND I HAVE TO USE THE SHARK HARD SURFACE STEAM CLEANER TO CLEAN ALL THE OTHER SINKS IN THE HOUSE? GOD, MOM, YOU’RE SO UNFAIR! WHAT ABOUT ART, HUH? WHAT ABOUT LITERATURE?

Haley weathers tryst accusations in SC gov race

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina legislator Nikki Haley has weathered unsubstantiated claims of physical relationships with two men to advance to a Republican primary runoff with U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett.

Haley nearly won Tuesday's primary outright, but fell just short of the majority needed to avoid the June 22 runoff. The winner will face Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen in November.

The adultery claims against Haley seemed only to solidify support for the 38-year-old mother of two. She is trying to become the first woman to win a party's nomination for governor in South Carolina.

Haley was at the back of the pack until she picked up an endorsement by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin last month.

The winner in the fall will replace term-limited Gov. Mark Sanford.
